The Tucson Music Teachers Association, founded in 1975, is comprised of over 100 diverse professional musicians seeking to provide outstanding musical instruction to students across southern Arizona. We come together for the mutual benefit of our students and our professional development. We are affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association and the Arizona State Music Teachers Association. MTNA was founded in 1876 to support music teaching and the art of music. All three associations are nonprofit organizations and MTNA is America’s oldest professional music association. Today MTNA’s 24,000 independent and collegiate music teachers are committed to furthering the art of music through programs that encourage and support teaching, performance, composition and scholarly research.
TMTA member teachers are located across the greater Tucson metro area including Oro Valley, Marana, Vail, Sahuarita, Green Valley, South Tucson, Ajo, Casas Adobes, Red Rocks, Catalina, Pima County and Pinal County. Although a majority of members teach piano or voice, instruction is offered on many instruments including violin, cello, string bass, flute, oboe, French horn, organ, harpsichord, percussion and other woodwinds. Instruction in music theory, composition, chamber music, accompanying, general music, Elementary music, piano pedagogy, music history, Group Piano, Early Childhood Music, and Recreational Music Making are all represented. All professional music teachers are invited to join us as we work collaboratively to provide quality music instruction to the people of southern Arizona.
